Jazz Dance

Vintage Jazz Dance is an umbrella term for all dance styles born of jazz and jazz-related music, including, but not limited to, the Cakewalk, Slow Drag, Texas Tommy, Foxtrot, Castle Walk, Peabody, Charleston, Black Bottom, Breakaway, Lindy Hop, Collegiate Shag, Balboa, and Bal-Swing.  The term is loosely applied to dances that surfaced in the period between 1890 and 1960, although the roots and influences of jazz dance extend far beyond those boundaries.

This site is intended to be perpetually expanding as my personal research into the story of Vintage Jazz Dance plods along.  Please feel free to send comments, suggestions, and further resources to info@jojojackson.com at any time!
